Roundup Mass Tort Leads

Facts About Roundup

The primary active ingredient in Roundup is isopropylamine salt of Glyphosate, which Monsanto developed in 1974. For decades, variations of this chemical have been used by farmers, landscapers, and even homeowners to control unwanted vegetation. The material is applied via a sprayer, which allows it to coat the vegetation, come into contact with human skin, and, in some instances, be inhaled. Humans can also become contaminated when touching plants that are still moist with Roundup after a spray application of the product.
It is critical to understand that in 2014, the International Agency For Research On Cancer determined that Glyphosate was likely to cause cancer in humans and has since been connected to cancers, including Leukemia and non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. It is also vital to understand that the parent company, Monsanto, was aware of the potential for health concerns as far back as 2002 when safety experts and toxicologists were corresponding to discuss the hazard of this material being absorbed through the skin. However, Roundup remained on store shelves with little information or warnings about its potential for harm to humans. Even after Bayer acquired Monsanto in 2018, the sale of Roundup continued.

Critical Information to Consider

Roundup is one of the most well-known and recognized weed control products among landscapers, farmers, golf course grounds workers, and others in various aspects of the landscape industry. Experts estimate that 1.8 million tons of the material have been used in various applications since it went on the market. The cases against Monsanto have numbered over 100,000. Currently, Beyer is working to reach a settlement agreement for over $10 billion to resolve these cases.

If the massive settlement attempt is not enough to demonstrate that Monsanto and Beyer have known the risks or hazards involved in using their product, there is one more critical piece of the puzzle. Monsanto, as a company, had a deep relationship with the then deputy director of the EPA’s pesticide division. This person was also involved in the Cancer Assessment Review Committee, and allegations were made that the person worked to conceal some of the hazards and reports that Glyphosate could cause cancer. In time, it was discovered that Monsanto was not conducting long-term testing on their product to learn more about the potential health risks it presented. Instead, millions of dollars were invested to cover up the possibility of health risks when using or being exposed to Roundup.

What Roundup Cancer Victims Face

Studies have found that Roundup could be responsible for many illnesses among those who were tasked with applying this product in landscape or farm settings. However, the most hazardous illness attributed to Roundup is cancer. Leukemia and non-Hodgkins lymphoma are the most common types of cancer found in people who had prolonged exposure to Roundup. Many of these victims suffer loss of appetite, swollen lymph nodes, stomach and chest discomfort or pain, night sweats, and fever before seeking medical care and discovering that often the symptoms are related to one of these forms of cancer typically caused by Roundup.
